Hoover (Boulder) Dam and Powerhouse, Fortification Mountain in Distance --- Hoover (Boulder) Dam is the highest in the world, 727 feet from bedrock to crest, and is a city block thick at the base (650 feet). Curved in an arch to resist the tremendous pressure of the lake waters, the crest is 45 feet wide, forms a highway bridge connecting Nevada and Arizona, and is part of a trans-continental route. The Dam is located in Black Canyon, on the Colorado River, seven miles from Boulder City, Nevada, in a region of marvelous desert grandeur and beauty.
