About this postcard
A horse-drawn omnibus with several passengers, including a driver in a light hat, stands on a sandy street beside the massive coquina-stone wall of St. Augustine's old fortifications. The card labels the scene "An Old Landmark of St. Augustine, Florida" and "The Oldest City in the United States." Founded by Spain in 1565, St. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied European-established settlement in the continental United States, and its colonial walls and gates were a standard sightseeing stop for visitors arriving by rail in the early twentieth century.
