Three horseback riders come toward the camera along a dirt trail through dense woods at Green Trails in Brookfield, Vermont. The path is narrow and shaded, with trees and undergrowth pressing in on both sides. Brookfield was a small rural town in central Vermont, and in the early 1900s wooded trails and unpaved roads remained part of everyday travel and local recreation.
