The curving crest of Horseshoe Falls appears through overhanging branches from Goat Island, with the Niagara River and rising mist below. Horseshoe Falls is the largest of Niagara's three cataracts and carries most of the river over a drop of about 170 feet into the gorge. Goat Island, on the New York side, separates it from the American Falls and has long been a favored vantage point for visitors.
