Horseshoe Falls with a Maid of the Mist boat, Niagara Falls, Ontario, circa 1910

Card type
Real photo

About this postcard

The Horseshoe (Canadian) Falls at Niagara thunders over its curving crest, sending up a dense cloud of spray, while a small excursion steamer — the kind used by the Maid of the Mist — works the churning basin below. The card's own caption names the falls simply "Horseshoe Falls." The Maid of the Mist has carried sightseers into the spray beneath Niagara's falls since the mid-19th century, and the boat's presence here gives a sense of the scale of the 170-foot cascade.
