About this postcard

The view shows the new stone hotel at Mountain Lake, a long, rustic building with red roofs and a wooded slope rising behind it. A boat dock and diving tower stand in the foreground, part of the resort's recreation grounds, and smaller outbuildings sit near the shoreline. Mountain Lake, near Pembroke in Giles County, is one of the few natural lakes in Virginia, and the hotel drew vacationers for the cool air of the Allegheny Mountains. The caption describes a modern resort with varied recreation and thousands of annual vacationists. The Norfolk & Western Railway served the area and promoted Mountain Lake as a mountain destination.
