Hotel Wellington, Seventh Avenue and 55th Street, New York City, circa 1910

Card type
Printed photo

About this postcard

A halftone view of the Hotel Wellington on Seventh Avenue at 55th Street in Manhattan, its facade topped by two flagpoles flying "WELLINGTON" pennants, with taller hotel blocks rising behind it. The avenue below is busy with open streetcars, early automobiles, horse-drawn vehicles and pedestrians. The card's printed text names A. F. Champlin as manager and notes his connection with the Ocean House at Watch Hill, Rhode Island. The Wellington was one of the large commercial hotels erected in the blocks just south of Central Park in the first years of the twentieth century, in the same hotel and theater district as Carnegie Hall.
