About this postcard
A long, many-winged resort hotel with mansard-roofed towers and a broad veranda stands above a mass of shrubbery, captioned as "The Historical Hotel Wentworth, New Castle, N. H." and noted as the "Residing Place of the Russian and Japanese Peace Commission." The Wentworth Hotel by the Sea, opened in the 1870s on the New Hampshire coast, housed the Russian and Japanese delegations during the 1905 Portsmouth Peace Conference, which produced the Treaty of Portsmouth ending the Russo-Japanese War. The card was copyrighted in 1905, the year of that conference.
