About this postcard

A long five-story red-brick hotel with rows of white-trimmed windows fills the background, its ground floor occupied by storefronts with red-and-white striped awnings and a sign reading "KRESGE" on the right. In the foreground a paved public square with a grassy island, a small tree, and a tall white stone soldiers' monument carries a few parked 1930s-era automobiles and pedestrians. The Hotel Woodruff was the principal hotel facing Public Square in Watertown, the seat of Jefferson County in northern New York's Black River valley.
