The view looks down a dirt road through High Amana, with several frame houses set behind wooden fences, a small well house in the foreground, and open fields beyond. High Amana was one of the seven Amana Colonies, communal villages founded by German Inspirationists in the 1850s. Around 1901 the colony still held property in common and supported itself through farming and communal workshops.
