About this postcard

View across the Thames toward the Palace of Westminster, with the Victoria Tower at left, the central spire, and the Clock Tower of Big Ben at right. A small launch trails smoke on the water while barges lie moored in the foreground. The printed caption notes that the Victoria Tower rises four hundred feet and that the Clock Tower holds the bell whose notes, in its phrasing, are heard daily by listeners the world over. Millie and Ed wrote a short note after driving to South Hampton and spending the night in London, with time running short before they posted it. The river approach to Parliament, taken from a boat or the embankment, was a standard stop for visitors to the city in the 1950s.
