About this postcard

A curving drive with a low stone wall and gateposts marked "HOYES" leads up a landscaped lawn to a rambling two-story brick and stucco institutional building, framed by tall shade trees and beds of flowering shrubs. The card names it Hoye's Sanitarium, advertised as "In the Mountains of Meridian," a private sanatorium and hospital that operated in Meridian, Mississippi, during the early twentieth century. Such privately run sanitariums were common in the South, offering surgical and convalescent care in a quiet, park-like setting away from the downtown core.
