About this postcard

The Huey P. Long Bridge stretches across the Mississippi River at New Orleans, its steel cantilever truss and curved approach dominating the view. A railroad track runs along the right side, with dense trees and water below. Completed in 1935 and named for Louisiana governor Huey P. Long, the bridge carried both rail and automobile traffic, with two 18-foot roadways flanking the tracks. It linked New Orleans with the west and was promoted as the longest free bridge in America and one of the great engineering feats of its day.
