About this postcard
A high oblique view of the Huey P. Long Bridge, a long steel truss cantilever span on tall concrete piers, curving across the Mississippi River with dense woodland and approach roadways in the foreground. The bridge, completed in 1935 and named for Louisiana governor and senator Huey P. Long, was notable for carrying both highway traffic and a double-track railroad on the same structure, linking New Orleans with the west bank and the national rail network. The caption presents it as the connection between New Orleans and "the Great West."
