About this postcard

The Illinois State Capitol rises behind a bronze figure of Abraham Lincoln on its pedestal in the foreground, framed by trees and a sunset-tinted sky. The domed Renaissance Revival capitol, completed in 1888 and designed by Alfred Piquenard and others, stands at the center of Springfield, the city where Lincoln practiced law and which he represented in the state legislature. The Lincoln statue in front of the building, by sculptor Andrew O'Connor, was dedicated in 1918 and depicts Lincoln as a young lawyer.
