About this postcard
The room known as the Independence Chamber in Independence Hall, with the table where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were signed and the tall armchair the caption identifies with John Hancock and George Washington as presiding officers. A white statue stands at the left beside a fireplace, and a framed mirror hangs above. The chamber was the meeting place of the Second Continental Congress and the Constitutional Convention, and by the early 1900s it was a familiar stop for visitors to Philadelphia's most historic building.
