About this postcard
The view looks down the French Broad River, with the rocky, tree-covered height of Indian Bluff rising on the left bank and a single-track railroad curving along the water's edge beneath it. Wooded slopes close in on both sides, and layered Blue Ridge ridges fade into a pink-tinted sky in the distance. The French Broad is one of the oldest rivers in North America, flowing north through western North Carolina past Asheville, and the line along its bank carried Southern Railway traffic through the mountain gorge in the early twentieth century.
