About this postcard

A large conical earthen mound rises above scrubby trees and brush, with a small pavilion or lookout perched on its summit. The printed caption identifies the site as Indian Mound Park in Quincy, Illinois. Quincy sits on the bluffs above the Mississippi River, and the park preserves a prehistoric earthwork built by Native peoples of the region. By the early 1900s, the mound was a local landmark and outing spot; the sender's note calls Quincy "a delightful place to spend birthday in."
