About this postcard

A large conical earthen mound rises above scrubby trees and brush, with a small pavilion or observation structure perched on its summit; the card's own caption names the site as Indian Mound Park in Quincy, Illinois. Quincy, on the bluffs above the Mississippi River in western Illinois, preserves a group of prehistoric Native American mounds within this park, which became a public pleasure ground in the late nineteenth century. The view is a halftone reproduction of a photograph, typical of the undivided-back era.
