About this postcard
The Indiana State Capitol in Indianapolis, often called the Statehouse, is a large Neoclassical limestone building with columned porticos, flanking wings, and a central dome topped by a flag. It stands beyond a lawn and curving walkway, with a few strolling figures in the foreground. Completed in 1888 to designs by Edwin May, it houses Indiana's executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The card's printed text notes that Indianapolis is the largest city in the state, that Indiana is the Hoosier State, and that it was admitted to the Union in 1816.
