About this postcard
A three-quarter view of the Indiana State Capitol, a large Neoclassical limestone building with a central gilded dome topped by a flagpole flying the American flag, flanked by lower green-tinted roof sections and rows of columns and arched windows. The present capitol, designed by Edwin May in the Neoclassical style, was begun in 1880 and completed in 1888, replacing an earlier 1835 statehouse on the same site; its dome is noted for being clad in Indiana limestone rather than the more typical metal or stone of eastern capitols. The building still houses the Indiana General Assembly and the governor's office.
