About this postcard
A three-quarter view of the Indiana State Capitol in Indianapolis, its central gilded dome topped by a flagpole flying the American flag, with two lower green-domed wings and a classical limestone facade of columns and pediments across the front. The present building, designed by Edwin May in the Neoclassical style and completed in 1888, replaced an earlier 1835 statehouse on the same site; its interior is noted for using Indiana limestone throughout. The card's linen-era coloring shows the grounds as lawn with young trees and a curbed street in the foreground.
