About this postcard
The view shows the Indiana World War Memorial at the head of its plaza, with the Soldiers' and Sailors Monument rising to the right among downtown Indianapolis buildings. The memorial, a limestone shrine modeled on the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, was completed in 1933 to honor Hoosiers who served in World War I. The 284-foot obelisk, dedicated in 1902, commemorates Indiana's Civil War soldiers and sailors. The two anchor the Indiana World War Memorial Plaza, a five-block civic ensemble laid out in the 1920s.
