About this postcard
The card shows the Indiana World War Memorial, a limestone shrine modeled on the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, standing at the head of the plaza with the 284-foot Soldiers' and Sailors Monument obelisk rising to its right amid downtown Indianapolis buildings. The memorial was completed in 1933 to honor Hoosiers who served in World War I, while the obelisk, dedicated in 1902, commemorates Indiana's Civil War soldiers and sailors. The two anchor the Indiana World War Memorial Plaza, a five-block civic ensemble laid out in the 1920s.
