About this postcard

The card shows the lush inner courtyard of Ramona's Marriage Place in Old Town San Diego: a fountain basin in the foreground, a tiled-roof adobe wing behind, an American flag on the roof, and dense tropical plantings of banana, bougainvillea and flowering shrubs. The building, long known as the Casa de Estudillo, was built in the 1820s by the Estudillo family and was popularized as the fictional marriage place of Helen Hunt Jackson's novel "Ramona," drawing tourists to Old Town in the early 20th century. It is now preserved as part of Old Town San Diego State Historic Park.
