About this postcard

The view looks along the arcaded Inner Quadrangle at Stanford University, with palm trees and a long paved walk leading toward the Memorial Arch. The sandstone arcades and open courtyard were part of the original campus, which opened in 1891 as the Leland Stanford Junior University, founded by Leland and Jane Stanford in memory of their son. In the early 1900s the quadrangle remained the center of student life.
