About this postcard
A wooden observation platform with a pipe railing juts out from a rocky, brush-covered bluff at Inspiration Point on Monte Sano Mountain, near Huntsville, Alabama, with the valley haze visible beyond the trees. Monte Sano ('mountain of health') rises just east of Huntsville and was promoted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a cool-air resort retreat, served by a mountain railway and the Monte Sano Hotel; much of the mountain was later set aside as Monte Sano State Park in the 1930s. The card notes the elevation as 2,000 feet.
