About this postcard

The view looks down the nave of Christ Church toward the altar, with Gothic arches, a stained-glass window, an American flag, and a cross on the wall. The card's note places the scene after the November 1927 flood and points to water marks on the pillars. It also traces the congregation to 1842, when the first church was organized and consecrated, and dates the present building to 1868, replacing the earlier church that burned in 1867. The 1927 flood hit Montpelier and much of Vermont hard; the marks on the pillars record how high the water rose.
