About this postcard

The view looks down the tiers of the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, New Jersey, toward the pipe organ facade and a platform centered on an American flag. The mottoes "Holiness to the Lord" and "So Be Ye Holy" flank the choir loft. The auditorium, built in 1894, is the centerpiece of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, a Methodist seaside camp founded in 1869. Its Hope-Jones organ, installed in 1908, was promoted as the largest in the world, a claim the printed caption repeats. The sender calls the hall very large and puts its capacity at ten thousand people, a scale in keeping with the summer preaching services that drew crowds to the Jersey Shore camp.
