About this postcard
The picture shows the vast auditorium of Radio City Music Hall, with its stacked proscenium arches, a stage full of dancers in white costumes arranged in a chorus line before a small pavilion, and a densely packed audience in the darkened orchestra below. The hall opened in 1932 as the centerpiece of John D. Rockefeller Jr.'s Rockefeller Center and, at roughly 6,000 seats, was long billed as the world's largest indoor theater. Its stage shows were famous for the precision dancing of the Rockettes, the troupe suggested by the line of dancers here.
