About this postcard
The photograph shows a high-ceilinged room inside Scotty's Castle, with heavy beamed ceiling, wrought-iron chandeliers, a piano, tiled fireplace, patterned rug, and an arched doorway opening onto a sunlit room. The house was the Death Valley ranch of Chicago insurance executive Albert M. Johnson, built in the 1920s and publicized through his friendship with prospector Walter Scott, known as Death Valley Scotty. Its Spanish Colonial Revival interiors, with tile, ironwork, and timber beams, gave the desert ranch a formal character.
