About this postcard

A view down the center aisle of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in New Orleans, with rows of dark wooden pews flanking a pale carpeted aisle leading to the main altar, above which rise tall arched windows and a central painted panel of the Virgin. The church, long associated with the Jesuit community on Baronne Street in the Central Business District, was dedicated in the 1930s in a Romanesque-Revival style after the earlier church on the site was destroyed by fire. The card's linen-era coloring emphasizes the warm stone walls and the stained glass of the apse.
