About this postcard

The view looks across the interior of the Jewel Box in Forest Park, where winding paths and flower beds surround a reflecting pool beneath a glass-and-steel conservatory roof. The building opened in 1936 as a public floral conservatory, designed in Art Deco style to hold seasonal displays of many flower varieties. Its glass walls and roof made it a bright public attraction in St. Louis, and the printed caption calls it an imposing building of glass open daily to the public.
