About this postcard

The Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines rises on a hill east of the Des Moines River, its gilded central dome and four smaller corner domes above a long stone facade of pilasters and arched windows. Trees and lawn fill the foreground. Completed in 1886, the capitol is one of the few state capitols with five domes, and its central dome is covered in 23-karat gold leaf. It remains the seat of Iowa's legislature and governor.
