A color view of the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines, its large gilded central dome and smaller corner domes rising above a long stone facade of pilasters and arched windows, with trees and lawn in the foreground. Completed in 1886, the building is one of the few state capitols with five domes, and its central dome is covered in 23-karat gold leaf. The capitol sits on a hill east of the Des Moines River and remains the seat of Iowa's legislature and governor.
