Jewel Box flower gardens, Forest Park, St. Louis, MO, 1933

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

A formal sunken garden of massed annual beds in pink, red, yellow, and white, threaded by curving tan paths and a small blue pool stocked with goldfish. Japanese-style stone lanterns, a pagoda ornament, and a rustic wooden bridge stand among palms and trees. The caption names it the Jewel Box in Forest Park, St. Louis, the park's glasshouse conservatory and floral display. The view shows the surrounding outdoor flower gardens rather than the glass building itself. Forest Park, laid out in the 1870s, hosted the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition.
