John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge over the Ohio River, Cincinnati, Ohio, circa 1940

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

The card shows the great stone tower and steel deck of the suspension bridge at Cincinnati, seen from the Ohio River with the city skyline and riverfront buildings behind it, all rendered in a warm sunset palette. The structure is the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge, designed by Roebling and opened in 1866, which spans the Ohio River between Cincinnati and Covington, Kentucky, and served as a prototype for his later Brooklyn Bridge. Its sandstone towers and main span made it one of the longest suspension bridges in the world at the time of its completion.
