Jones County Court House, Trenton, NC, circa 1915

About this postcard

Black-and-white view of the Jones County courthouse in Trenton, North Carolina: a two-story brick building with a pedimented portico carried on four tall columns, a domed cupola on the roof, and a broad flight of steps rising to the central entrance. Trees stand at the right, and the street in front is empty. Trenton has been the seat of Jones County since the 1780s, when the county was set off from Craven County on the eastern North Carolina coastal plain. The courthouse square anchored a small rural town where court terms, land records, and public business drew people in from the surrounding farms.
