Judges Cave, West Rock Park, New Haven, Connecticut, circa 1905

About this postcard

Two large glacial boulders form Judges Cave, enclosed by an iron fence on a grassy slope in West Rock Park. Trees frame the opening at left and right against a pink and blue sky. Local tradition connects the cave with two English judges who fled to New England after the execution of Charles I and reportedly hid on West Rock. By the early 1900s the park was a scenic destination above New Haven.
