Junction of Broadway and Elm Street with trolley car, New Haven, Connecticut, circa 1910

About this postcard

A black-and-white view looking down the broad junction of Broadway and Elm Street, with a trolley car approaching along tracks set in the pavement. Three-story brick and frame commercial blocks line both sides, their ground floors given over to storefronts with awnings and signs, while utility poles and overhead wires cross the sky. New Haven's Elm Street and Broadway meet just west of the Yale campus, and this stretch was a busy retail and streetcar corridor in the early 20th century. The ornate name printed across the sky suggests the card was personalized for its owner or recipient.
