About this postcard

A quiet stretch of the Kettle River near Sandstone, Minnesota, shown as a still, mirror-like pool reflecting a line of trees along the far bank, with grassy foreground on the near shore. The Kettle River is a tributary of the St. Croix in east-central Minnesota, and the Sandstone area was known in the early twentieth century for its sandstone quarries and for the river's rapids and bluffs. The tinted halftone rendering gives the scene a soft, hand-colored look typical of the era.
