The ornate Gothic canopy tomb of King Edward II fills the view inside Gloucester Cathedral, its multi-tiered stone shrine rising in pinnacled arches above a recumbent effigy. The monument stands beneath a cathedral arch, its carved surfaces catching the light.
Edward II was deposed in 1327 and buried at Gloucester, where his tomb became a pilgrimage site. The shrine's elaborate canopy and effigy made it one of the cathedral's most visited monuments and a focal point of its medieval fabric.
