About this postcard

A tinted view along Kingston Pike outside Knoxville, where a broad macadamized road carries a horse-drawn carriage and pedestrians. A fenced rail line and tall telephone poles run beside the road, and a red steel truss bridge appears at left. Knox County was known for its good roads; the card notes more than 200 miles of fine macadamized pikes reaching every important point in and beyond the county. Kingston Pike was one of Knoxville's oldest routes west, and by the early 1900s it carried carriage traffic and the rail lines serving the city's western outskirts.
