About this postcard

A tinted view along Kingston Pike outside Knoxville, showing the broad unpaved road with a horse-drawn carriage and strolling pedestrians, a fenced railroad line, tall telephone poles, and a red steel truss bridge crossing the river at left. Kingston Pike is one of Knoxville's oldest routes, laid out along the road toward Kingston and Nashville, and by the early 20th century it carried both carriage traffic and the trolley and rail lines that served the city's western suburbs. The bridge in the distance is typical of the truss spans built over the Tennessee River in this period.
