Knox County Bridge over the Tennessee River, Knoxville, Tennessee, circa 1905

About this postcard

A long steel arch bridge on heavy stone piers spans a broad river, with a sternwheel steamboat and a smaller launch passing beneath it; behind the bridge rise the buildings and church spires of Knoxville, including a large domed courthouse-like structure on the bluff. The card names the structure as the Knox Co. Bridge at Knoxville, Tennessee, part of the city's early river crossings that linked the downtown bluff with the south bank of the Tennessee River. The Rotograph Co. copyright line dates the view to about 1905, when such multi-span steel bridges and river steamers were everyday sights on the Tennessee.
