About this postcard
The Kyes Motel appears as a low, spread-out motor court on U.S. 2 and Route 201A in Skowhegan, Maine. A long one-story unit block faces a mown lawn, with several small pink cottages behind it. Lawn chairs, a table under a striped umbrella, and a metal swing set fill the foreground, and a 1950s sedan is parked by one cottage. An inset view at upper right shows more cottages and a car along the driveway. The layout fits the postwar motor court built for families on driving vacations: separate cabins and shared outdoor space rather than a single urban hotel. Skowhegan sits on the Kennebec River in central Maine, and the motel's highway address placed it among the roadside stops that served mid-century auto travel.
