Lafayette Hotel from Lafayette Monument, Buffalo, NY, circa 1905

About this postcard

The view looks across Lafayette Square from the monument toward the Lafayette Hotel, with the Buffalo Library at left and the Mooney Building at right. Two cannons sit in the foreground of the square. The hotel opened in 1904 and was designed by Louise Blanchard Bethune, one of the first professional women architects in the United States. Lafayette Square was a civic and commercial center in Buffalo, and the library and Mooney Building stand as part of that setting. The caption's "monumento" is likely a slip for monument.
