About this postcard
A meadow and low brush fill the foreground, backed by a dense band of green forest, with a rocky, partly wooded mountain slope rising at left and a dark evergreen standing at right; blue peaks close the valley under a pale sky. The caption names the view as Lafayette Place in Franconia Notch, the celebrated mountain pass in New Hampshire's White Mountains between the Franconia and Kinsman ranges. Lafayette Place was long associated with the Profile House hotel and the nearby Old Man of the Mountain profile, a state symbol that collapsed in 2003; the notch is now Franconia Notch State Park.
