About this postcard
A meadow and low brush fill the foreground, backed by a dense band of forest, with a rocky, partly wooded slope rising at left and a dark evergreen standing at right; blue peaks close the valley under a pale sky. The caption names the view as Lafayette Place in Franconia Notch, the mountain pass between the Franconia and Kinsman ranges in New Hampshire's White Mountains. Around 1900 the notch was a summer resort destination, and the Profile House hotel at Lafayette Place put up guests who came to see the Old Man of the Mountain, the rock profile above the notch that stood until it fell in 2003.
