The view looks across a small campus lake with a bridge and wooded banks. A brick gymnasium stands on the rise behind the water, and several people are out in boats. Muskingum College, founded in 1837, has long been central to the village of New Concord in eastern Ohio. The lake and bridge gave students a place for boating and informal outings, while the gymnasium served physical education and indoor athletics.
